This September saw the Labour government’s 2024 conference held. A major event in which thousands of attendees gathered. With delegates from constituencies, trade unions and socialist societies attending to vote on various policies put forward at the National Policy Forums. Our own social housing bespoke windows systems were there!
Before getting to our role though, we should be clear about the rest of the event. As it featured keynote speeches from amazing speakers with a speech from the current Labour leader directly.
Key Points and How Social Housing Windows Systems Were Relevant
One of the biggest questions you may have had for the conference was regarding the winter fuel allowance. Namely what, if anything, could be done about it. This policy was a major question on the minds of everyone present. Especially for those already living in social housing.
You may have assumed that the planned changes to the winter fuel allowance were settled. The Labour government would go ahead with its adjustment. However, this isn’t quite the case. As Unite the Union led a push, along with other unions, to hold a vote on the policy change.
With an impassioned speech by Sharon Graham, Unite’s general secretary, the collective unions succeeded in a non-binding vote to repeal the planned changes. As you yourself may have felt, so did others believe that this was not the way a Labour government should act. Nor was it in the interest of the UK.
Whether this leads to a change in the planned policy remains to be seen. Labour can by every right ignore the vote. At no small cost to their relationships with the unions that make up the bulwark of their power base.
With it still up in the air our social housing windows systems are as relevant as ever. With proven results in improving energy efficiency in the home and the reduction of monthly fuel costs. Our home technology offers relief at a time when older generations may be looking at a reduction in their monthly spending power.
Moving Forward with Greater Efficiency

A drive to improve on and develop social housing in the north of England. Given that a significant part of the housing stock is social housing and that this housing could generate significant funds for a government striving to build a refreshed economy.
The current Labour leader, Keir Starmer who you may have heard of, spoke to this drive as well. As he spoke to the delegates about their plans to drive the UK to a green energy plan. In line with this, of course, is the additional spending on infrastructure projects that use new technologies to improve the energy efficiency of our homes.
With further government support, you could see our social housing windows systems implemented in your own home. Improving energy conservation and saving you real money.
Though it remains to be seen what the results of the pitch were. As well as the extent to which the new Labour government is willing to spend on improving the energy efficiency of homes. It’s clear that our social housing windows systems will play a part in it.

So you might be wondering what our next steps are beyond the conference. You’re not likely to see the results of the Northern Housing Consortium’s pitch anytime soon.
